Designing the interactive app behind Mercedes-Benz’s recruitment experience

Challenge

Mercedes-Benz.IO was opening its new digital hub in Lisbon and needed to attract top-tier developers during Web Summit — Europe’s biggest tech event. Traditional recruiting tactics weren’t enough to stand out among hundreds of tech companies. They needed a memorable, hands-on experience that reflected the brand’s engineering excellence and gave candidates a taste of what it feels like to work with Mercedes-Benz.IO. The idea: create The Best Chair — an exclusive seat inspired by Mercedes car features, designed to enhance a developer’s daily workflow. To bring the chair to life, we needed a seamless mobile app that allowed each user to personalize and control their experience.

Solution

Working in a creative tech agency, I was responsible for defining and designing the full digital experience that connected the chair to the user. I designed a mobile app that allowed visitors to adjust their seat settings, explore the chair’s “car-like” features, and engage with the brand through a playful yet premium interaction model. This included: • Mapping the experience from event onboarding to chair interaction • Designing flows for personalizing the chair (position, temperature, lights, etc.) • Creating a visually rich UI aligned with Mercedes-Benz’s design language The result was a seamless, high-impact experience true to Mercedes-Benz’s premium identity.

Outcome

The experience successfully captured developers’ attention in one of the most competitive environments in Europe. The Best Chair became one of the standout activations at Web Summit, drawing continuous queues of candidates eager to interact with the prototype.
The chair helped the company connect with highly skilled talent and reinforce its positioning as an engineering-driven, design-minded tech hub.
